Jimmy Thelin previews our match at Pittodrie
Manager Jimmy Thelin spoke to the media to look ahead to our match with Kilmarnock in the William Hill Premiership on Sunday afternoon. RedTV subscribers can watch in full by clicking here.
“I am looking forward to the game this weekend, it’s a new game at home at Pittodrie. After the cup game, I feel how the supporters stayed with us the whole game and gave us their support. It was still 0-0 but there was no frustration. They keep pushing the team. We’re trying to create this atmosphere at Pittodrie, we are doing a journey together. We are all in the same boat and we need to be strong there. Sometimes it’s rough water but we still need to keep going. We fight to the end and finally win the game. For me, it has a huge impact for the players when the fans are supporting until the end of the games and they did and that was really important for us.
“The season is long. We just started the season and it’s early and things can happen. Sometimes you can’t win forever but we’re going to try to be there all the time and try to keep the momentum and always reload. We don’t live in the past. We always prepare for the future and take it training by training and game by game. For me that is the only way. To reload, stay humble, do the hard work, put the focus in the right things and try to win the games.
“I never think like that (playing Kilmarnock between two European matches) because it’s two different competitions. They have a good experienced manager in Derek and they have a strong squad and I am sure they are going to be really prepared for the game against us at Pittodrie. I don’t think like advantage or these kind of things. I always try to prepare, focus on what we can do and do the best we can do there.
“For me that’s a bigger question, not one so close before a game (responding to a question on Kilmarnock exploring the possibility of postponing the game) but it’s a bigger question in that case for the league and how we want to prepare ourselves for the European games. I haven’t thought about this specific situation at all. I am new in this league. I don’t know exactly how it impacts on the games. I think there are better people than me to talk about that question. After the season maybe and before next season maybe. I only have my experience from Sweden when we were in Europe and there we have three games a week and we don’t talk about it so much during the season. We just play the games and keep moving. It’s always good for Scottish football if we’re strong in Europe but for me right now I don’t think about it at all.
“For team news, Dante is still some way to go until he is ready. Leighton is maybe more on the pitch after the national team break and let’s see from there.
“As I told you before and you are going to get the same answer today, I don’t want to speak about other teams players and speculation and these kind of things. I think you are better than me to speculate!
“We have some ideas, some visions for the future. You see now Jack Milne played in the last game and did really well. Pape and Vinnie have done some really good things on the pitch as well. You look at the training sessions and everybody is competing. My focus is with them right now. You always have to respect the windows. It can be in both directions. Someone can come for our players so you always have to be prepared and think about the long term but also working in the short term and prepare for the games and pushing the players here, see them grow, how the team spirit is when we celebrate the goals. Everybody is there to celebrate and so right now I think we are in a good place but as I told you before, when the window is closing then we know the answer.
“Of course at home you always want to be strong and create this atmosphere with the fans. I don’t look so much in the past. I always look in the future and where I am right now and even if it was a good or bad season it doesn’t matter, it’s what we’re doing right now and what and what we’re trying to build. How we are working right now with the players, the staff and all the fans and supporters, that is the most important thing. To bring some success, like I said at the beginning we have to stay strong even if sometimes there is rough water. We have to keep the direction and go through the hurdles and stay stronger.”
