Aberdeen boss Jimmy Thelin ticked off another milestone with his first league game at Pittodrie, the Dons matching Celtic in having the only 100% record left, just two games into the season.

“It was a lot of emotions today, a lot of good feelings. It was an exciting game. We started strong, but then they scored in the last seconds of the first half. That can be difficult, but the supporters backed us when we went in for half-time and the players were calm and trusted the way we have to go through things together to find ways to win.

“We still have parts to improve, but the players found a way to win and they gave everything. Everyone is a good support to each other to try to win this game, so it was nice to see. It’s not easy, not at all. We need to stay humble and keep working. We need all the support all the time. It’s going to be a long journey and we have still things to improve, but we need to keep the spirit up.”

Pape Gueye and Vicente Besuijen were on the mark for the Dons, both having been given a new lease of life under the new manager.

“They’re training so hard and you need a strong squad and a strong group of players. The character of the players and how they support each other, when we’re training and in the dressing room and when sometimes our game is not perfect, still they have this fighting spirit for each other.

“I’m really happy that they both scored, but also how they work for each other on the pitch, in the defence, transitions and everything. I think the confidence is there with Pape. He always trains hard and plays in some different positions, like a winger and ten. Today I’m really happy with the timing he had on the corner and the goal he scored. It was really important for us in that moment. Then Vinnie came on in the second half to score too. I like the way how every player comes in and takes responsibility. That’s a good sign.”
