I've been dreaming about that moment for a while

Shayden Morris brought both his shooting boots and his dancing shoes as he registered his first Aberdeen goal in the 4-0 win over East Kilbride.

“It’s been a long time coming, so I was happy to get the goal. I had a chance just before that that I didn’t take and I was thinking, ‘Next time I get it, just be more positive.’

“The touch was great and it set me up for the goal. I’ve been dreaming about that moment for a while. It’s obviously not been easy and I’ve just been waiting for that chance, waiting to play, get on the wing and have someone believe in me.

“The manager has brought a great culture to the club. After games we’re all dancing in the changing room, after every win, everyone, even if you haven’t played. Leighton Clarkson is the DJ, so whenever we win, we try to just build that culture, get it stronger every week. We’re loving it and we’re learning a lot. I’ve learned as much in these few weeks from him as I have in a lot of years.

“I’m enjoying it, I feel confident, I feel that the manager believes in me, that he’s giving me a fresh start. I’m just playing the way I want to play and I like it. Having a new manager and a clean slate gives you a whole different level of motivation. I like how he plays, I like his beliefs in the game and it’s a great chance for me to get my foot in.

“I feel very good, very fit and strong. It’s been a difficult couple of seasons with a few injuries, a few setbacks and stuff, but I’ve just stayed strong, my belief in God is strong, and I just believe very hard that these better moments would come.

“The way I play, with the acceleration, it’s hard on the hamstrings. I guess I have had to learn the hard way to strengthen them and do more in the gym to keep them strong. I’ve got that side of stuff sorted and now I’m feeling strong for now. I’ve had two surgeries and that’s helped, and now just everyday, I’ve got to do stuff to stay on top of my health – ice baths, work in the gym, all kinds of things.

“It has been hard being out of action, not playing and having to watch on the sideline, but I think when you have moments like today, you put that all aside. I just want to keep moving forward now.”
