It’ll be a completely different game
Jamie McGrath post match quotes from the Pittodrie press room
Jamie McGrath scored his first goal for the Dons against Ross County at Pittodrie, but it was the three points that clearly meant the most to him as he spoke after the game.
“We knew it was important to back Thursday’s performance up, and to come away with three points. We all agreed on Thursday that we needed to use that to kick-start our season. We have got a lot of new faces, but we can’t use that as an excuse any longer. We’ve taken a bit longer to gel than we’d want but hopefully this is the start of better things in terms of the results.
“Thursday was a performance to be proud of in front of an amazing away support. We’ve taken confidence from how well we dug in for each other and stuck together, and probably deserved a draw against a really good side. We took that into today.
“At half-time, we knew we couldn’t take our foot off the gas, because at this level, you get punished for that. 2-0 is a dangerous lead and we knew if we conceded the next goal, the game could flip.
“The front two were great for us today. They hold the ball up really well and as a midfielder, that’s what you want, so you can get forward and support them. It was great for Duk to get his first goal and I’m grateful to Bojan for setting me up for mine. They were both outstanding.
“But we can’t get carried away. It’s a home game, the expectations here are that you win home games. It was a good performance but we know we have to produce something just as good or better on Wednesday night in the cup. It’ll be a completely different game, they’re at home, they’re a good side and they’ll have a point to prove, so we are going to have to be at our best to get the right result.”
