Barry Robson spoke to media in the Pittodrie press room the Dons came from behind to draw with St Johnstone.

“I think you can see in us a team that’s had a hard time of it recently, you can see a lack of confidence. They got the first goal and that gave them the chance to sit off the game, orchestrate things defensively and we didn’t move the ball quick enough. Callum is a great organiser and it’s not easy to break through that.

“We grew into the game though, we created some really good chances in the first half that we could have scored. Second half, I was very proud of them. I thought we played the 45 minutes in their half, we lost Declan to injury at half-time, put Scott to centre-half, lost him, moved Lewis to centre-half, but we kept up the fight and I like that. On another night, we win the game, I felt we deserved it.

“I felt the players were brave, especially second half. You’ve got to remember where we’ve been the last few weeks and months, we’re a bit fragile. It was a patched up team, they played Motherwell on Saturday, physical game on a really heavy pitch, and then we had to go again tonight. You saw tonight that they’re an honest bunch, they kept going despite that, and I thought they did enough to win it.

“I’ve only really had a day working with them, we had about 40 minutes on the training pitch, we did a few set plays, so it wasn’t easy. I’m finding out about them and they’re doing the same with me.”

It wasn’t an easy night in terms of injuries either with Robson forced into a couple of substitutions.

“Scott tweaked his hamstring but if any player can get through that and be playing on Saturday, it’ll be him. Very frustrating to lose him because he’s a leader but we’ll give him a chance. Declan had to come off at half-time, so again, we’ll see how he goes over the next few days.”

One of the brightest parts of the evening was the impressive full debut made by Connor Barron. Robson was full of praise for him.

“Connor’s not the tallest, not the biggest, but he’s got a heart the size of a lion, he can play, he’s aggressive in the right way. He gets in front of players, never shirks a challenge, he’s brave, reads the game well, and I thought he was outstanding. I thought Calvin was better tonight as well, he’s had a spell that was tough for him but he was more like it tonight.

“Across the team, I thought the boys showed enthusiasm and desire and that was pleasing. When you give that, the talent starts to come through and that’s when you’ll get results.

“My philosophy is I look for a fast, aggressive style that’s great on the eye. But that’s your dream. When you’re a team where the season hasn’t gone that well for you, you dig in. We are in the middle of the table, we’re one win away from fourth place, that’s how we have to be thinking. We’ve got the players that can do that.”
