Stephen Glass | "Our attitude was right from the start."
A substitution is always an opportunity to change the course of a game and for Stephen Glass, that was very much the case as super-sub Teddy Jenks found the winner against St Johnstone.
“The game was really crying out for a bit of quality and Teddy produced it. I’ve not seen the goal back but the way their players reacted, you’d have to say the probability is there was an element of handball in there. I don’t know if the referee saw it or saw it and decided it wasn’t a handball. The bit I care about is the finish from Teddy, because the quality he produced was fantastic.
“Teddy offers something different to what JET gives us. He helped us play further up the park so, although it sounds strange, it was a pretty attacking change because he will threaten in behind.
“First half, I felt we were good, we moved the ball around really well on a difficult surface. Second half, it became a much closer game. They had some opportunities and were a bigger threat, and we had our moments too.
“If we have had that bit of luck with the decision, then that’s how it is sometimes. We’ve had a few that have gone against us this season, pretty clear ones in my opinion, but if you do get a break, you have to make the most of it. I felt we did that with our overall performance.
“The boys at the back were brilliant, they had to stand up to a lot. I was tempted to throw Declan on at the end but I just felt that it would mean putting les pressure on the ball higher up the pitch and could lead to us being camped in and asking for trouble. We kept going with what we believed in and the clean sheet was the reward for that.”
With the Dons back in the top six, December has been a good month thus far.
“We needed the kind of run we are on. If you win two or three games, you can jump up the table pretty quickly. I’m delighted for the players that they’ve got their rewards. It’s easy to come here and get beat if you’re not at it, St Johnstone are a good team, it’s always tough here, Callum’s got them fighting, but our attitude was right from the start. Now we need to maintain that attitude and our form at Hibs.”
