It was a welcome first league goal of the season for Ryan Hedges against Livingston on Wednesday night, his 23rd minute strike setting the Dons off on the path to victory and a man of the match performance.

“I got played in by a good pass from Christian. The manager and Allan have been on at me to try and get into goalscoring positions as much as I can. That is something that I want to try to do, commit the defender, get a shot on goal and fortunately it went in.

“Being an attacking player, you want to be exciting and go past players and that is something that I feel I can do. When I get the ball and the opportunity to run at defenders, that’s something I need to keep on doing, to drive the team forward and to get goals and assists.

“My chance in the first half when it was saved by the keeper, it would have been a well worked team goal, but it was a great save. We could have been two or three up at half time.

“We said before the game that the three points were the most important thing but I felt that every player on the pitch added to the team performance. It is something that we can be proud of and something that we can build on. We have to take the momentum into Saturday now.”

It was a first real taste of winter at Pittodrie on Wednesday night, bitterly cold with a blustery wind whipping the sleet and snow around the stadium.

“It is never nice to play in the conditions that we had tonight, but it is the same for both teams. We did really well, we kept the ball on the floor because when the ball is in the air the wind can take a hold of it. I thought that we used the ball really well, especially in the first half.

“Credit has to go to the fans for coming out for the game in really bad conditions. They got behind us the whole way, you could really feel it. Hopefully it is the same this. afternoon. If we can start like we did against Livingston, then I am sure the fans will be with us, and hopefully we can get them another win to enjoy.”
