It’s the final home match of 2021 for AFC Women this weekend when they face Partick Thistle at the Balmoral Stadium on Sunday. After a tough run of results, The Dons will be looking to return to winning ways in front of the BBC Alba live cameras. Co-manager Gavin Beith previews Sunday’s match:

“It will be great to be back at the Balmoral Stadium for Sunday’s Park’s Motor Group SWPL1 match against Partick Thistle. It will be our first league game at the ground since the start of October and it will be another tough encounter.

“It has been a difficult run for the team over the last period of the season and we’ll be looking to get back to picking up points against Thistle. I think that Thistle will be thinking exactly the same thing as they come here and they will be confident after their performance and narrow defeat to Rangers last Sunday.

“There are almost two leagues within SWPL1 at the minute with the top four being one and everyone else in the other. When you come up against one of the other teams around you, you always feel that it is a winnable game but then our opponents on Sunday will be thinking the exact same thing about coming up against us.

“It’s a big game at the weekend and although we’ve been on a difficult run of defeats the confidence in the squad is still good. We know what we can do and what we’re capable and we’ve not been far away over the last few matches. There has been a lot of good stuff recently, we’ve been good in possession and competitive in games and we’ve just came up short in terms of picking up points.

“We knew the league would be like that this season and that we would need to come through some tough spells. A good performance and the rub of green on Sunday will hopefully give us the platform to take the three points.

“Thistle are sitting a point ahead of us in the table but we have beaten them away already this season so we know that we are capable of getting a win against them. The league table is tightly congested from fifth place downwards and although we are currently sitting in ninth, fifth position is only three points ahead of us.

“It is our last home game of the calendar year so we will look to sign off in style with a win.”
