Stephen Glass | Dundee Utd Reaction

“I think that we were in control for the bulk of the game. A little bit of indiscipline from Funso going back to the incident, it probably cost us the chance to come back in the second half with an extra man. Giving the ball away cheaply on the halfway line and not defending the corner cost us big time. I think United did less than us to lose the game, they didn’t really do much to win it. With our quality we didn’t do enough to win it either.

“It is probably a 0-0 everyday of the week but if you give the ball away cheaply and you don’t defend set pieces then you are likely to lose.

“The Funso incident shouldn’t happen. He hasn’t gone looking for it. He gets pushed, he goes back towards the incident. I think the referee can protect the player a little bit, rather than producing a second yellow. If he doesn’t go back towards him then he doesn’t give him the opportunity. If you give the referee an opportunity to produce a second yellow, they can do  it.

“Funso is a competitor, he is a fighter. The referee has decided to produce a second yellow and I can’t say too much other than that.

“I questioned a couple of the referee’s decisions at half time, he decided that I was questioning his integrity which I would never do. I will get the chance to explain myself. There are a couple of different incidents that we can show, that have had different outcomes.

“The incident where Peter Pawlett hits Jack MacKenzie on the head, I have seen the same referee send off a Livingston player for touching a players’ head. That is all that I was asking him about but I am not questioning his integrity in any shape or form. A player out of control, a head knock like that and it is not even a yellow card, I am not so sure on that decision.

“I am sure Dundee United will deal with the supporter themselves. The biggest concern for me is giving the ball away cheaply on the half way line and not defending the corner. What Dundee United do is not for me to comment.

“I haven’t had the chance to speak to Funso but he looks disappointed, he feels like he has let us down a little bit. To an extent he has because he could walk away from it and get back onto the pitch and it would be 10v11 but it is difficult to walk away from that. I will support the player. He has been brilliant for us all year and I am sure he will continue to be.

“David Bates missed out today through illness, we hope, that all being well, he will be back for Celtic next week.”
