Aberdeen Football Club has teamed with Health & Wellbeing Partners Health Shield to launch a new series of business events, kicking off with an Employee Wellbeing Business Breakfast in November.

The first Aberdeen FC Team Talks event is set to take place on Thursday 11th November 2021 and follows on from World Mental Health Day which was on 10th October and International Stress Awareness Week 1-5 November.

“These days are not mutually exclusive; the two are linked, especially in the workplace, and employers should be working on both factors to create a meaningful solution rather than promoting good mental health then having a stressful workplace.” Matt Liggins Head of Wellbeing at Health Shield Friendly Society

“In the aftermath of COVID, the business case for employee wellbeing just got a whole lot stronger.

“Businesses need healthy, happy employees to drive recovery. Many will be looking at what they already do and how they can improve, and others will be looking for support and direction.”

As Aberdeen FC’s Official Health and Wellbeing Partner, Health Shield are excited to offer this interactive session which will focus on:

  • How employers can establish their ‘state of play’ in relation to their employee wellbeing and tips for the road to recovery
  • How to establish what wellbeing support employees want from their employers
  • How to communicate that support and promote continuous engagement

The event will also help employers understand how they can strengthen employee resilience through digital health and wellbeing tools that will lead to a better work/life balance for their employees.

The line-up of panellists will include a range of professionals who together will share ways to promote and enhance wellbeing. Joining Matt Liggins is AFC Head of Medical and Football Science Adam Stokes who will share an insight behind the scenes at the Club and the importance of looking after the mental wellbeing of players as well as their physical health.

Sarah McColl, Partnership Manager at Aberdeen Football Club, said: “The goals are to raise awareness of the holistic nature of employee wellbeing and to focus on some tangible tools and resources that employers can utilise.

“We want to educate and upskill the audience; employee wellbeing impacts a person’s engagement, performance, motivation, loyalty and levels of absence from work. It’s in everyone’s best interest to care about and prioritise this.

Sarah added: “Given the adaptations and evolutions in working practice witnessed throughout the pandemic, I think it’s timely to consider why we often still prescribe to a 9-5 culture of work in such a digital age. Isn’t it time we fostered a better life balance for ourselves.”
