Ogilvie ends season on high with Player of the Month scoop

Francesca Ogilvie of Aberdeen has been voted as the winner of the Scottish Building Society SWPL Player of the Month for June 2021.

The forward helped her side to lift the SWPL 2 title, eventually finishing 10 points clear of second. In a busy month which involved seven games for Aberdeen, Ogilvie scored eight goals and provided four assists. This included a hat‐trick away to Queen’s Park with Aberdeen coming away 3‐0 winners.

Speaking from Cormack Park, Ogilvie said: “The main thing for us this season was promotion to SWPL 1 and to accomplish that by winning the league. After 10 games, we put ourselves in a great position. With the suspension of the season and a large number of games in June though, we had to work hard to make sure we achieved our goal. We’ve certainly earned our success.

It’s the second time that an Aberdeen FC player has picked up the award in the 2020/21 season with Bayley Hutchison winning back in October 2020.

“Receiving this award is icing on the cake for me” said Ogilvie. “Winning individual awards is nice and it’s great to be recognised. With Bayley (Hutchison) having won earlier this season, it shows we’ve got quality in our team. I certainly think people know Aberdeen are a team to watch next season.”

On top of winning the public vote, Ogilvie also came out with the most votes amongst the Head Coaches in the Scottish Building Society SWPL 2.

Vivienne MacLaren, Chair of Scottish Women’s Football (SWF) said: “I’d like to congratulate Francesca on winning the final Player of the Month award for the 2020/21 season. It has been a fantastic season for her and the whole Aberdeen FC team.

This is also the final award to be sponsored by Scottish Building Society after the end of a hugely successful partnership with SWPL.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Scottish Building Society for their support over the last few years. They have helped SWF drive the SWPL forward, including the development of these awards.”

Also nominated for the June award was Clare Docherty (Partick Thistle), Josephine Giard (Hamilton Academical), and Robyn Smith (Dundee United).
