It has been a long time coming but our return to football is just around the corner with the Scottish premiership season set to kick-off on Saturday.

Whilst we won’t be playing in front of a crowd when we take on Rangers at Pittodrie it has not stopped Dons supporters, excited about the possibility of a return to stadiums sooner than first thought, from snapping up season tickets taking the total to over 8,000!

As the country continues to emerge from lockdown and restrictions ease, we still await further guidance from the Government on how many supporters will be allowed in the stadium initially. At the start of the month we estimated that up to 7,500 supporters could enter the stadium but after some further work by our Ticket Office staff and Stadium management team we now believe that figure could be up to 9,000 based on 1 metre social distancing.

In reaction to reaching the latest milestone, AFC Chairman, Dave Cormack, said, “I said last week that the fans have been amazing throughout all of this and the response to our latest financial update has been even more encouraging to take the total number of season tickets over 8,000.

“The 9,000 partial capacity is what we believe to be the best case scenario and this will likely be phased, but it’s important we let supporters know that there is a realistic chance we won’t be able to sell match by match tickets to home supporters this season, let alone away fans, if we reach this number through season tickets.

“The only way to view matches could be as a season ticket holder, we hope that isn’t the case and that we are able to return to full crowds but that looks some way off and we want to make sure that we look after our season ticket holders first and foremost.”

Supporters who sign-up by Wednesday night’s deadline will gain virtual access to Saturday’s league opener with Rangers and also have the opportunity to spread the cost over 6 months at 0% interest through V12 Season Ticket Finance.
