Gothenburg Day on RedTV
Join us this Gothenburg Day on RedTV as we reminisce about that magnificent occasion 37 years ago which saw The Dons triumph over the mighty Real Madrid in Gothenburg.
From 10am we’ll hear from members of the Red Army who travelled to Sweden. Historian Kevin Stirling recalls the memorable trip on the P&O Ferry, St Clair while Mike Brown of the Stirling Reds Supporters Club and Ken Kerr of the Inverness Reds describe their equally memorable journeys by plane as thousands of supporters headed to Scandinavia.
At lunchtime, majestic Dons winger, Peter Weir recalls the events leading up to that famous night in an in-depth interview with the Red Matchday Editor. He looks back at his first experience in European football with St Mirren to playing a pivotal role in the Ullevi Stadium.
To round off the day, renowned broadcaster, FIFA20 commentator and Dons supporter, Derek Rae is joined by four Dons legends for a full re-run of the match in Gothenburg.
Joining Derek are the two vital goal scorers on the night, Eric Black and John Hewitt as well as midfield maestro Neil Simpson and the captain, Willie Miller.
Before the match they look back at the run to Gothenburg, recalling famous night like Bayern and Waterschei at Pittodrie and describe the build up to the final. The four legends describe their thoughts at half time and after the 90 minutes and after the trophy presentation reflect on the emotional scenes and post-match celebrations.
It’s a fantastic way to mark the anniversary so join Derek and the Dons legends from 6.30pm on RedTV! The full programme will be available on demand.
