ABERDEEN STROLL TO THE TITLE IN SUN KISSED EDINBURGH

The task was simple, win both remaining games and become champions. Aberdeen had little trouble in sweeping away this relegated Hibs side. Archibald and Watson eased them into a 2-0 half time lead before a Scanlon brace and a McGhee strike completed the 5-0 thumping. The drama didn’t end there however as the news filtered through that it was still goal-less at Love Street between St Mirren and title rivals, Celtic. Ten minutes from time Celtic were awarded a penalty and the huge Aberdeen support held its breath before letting out a huge cheer as the referee pulled the infringement back to the edge of the area after consulting his linesman. The Dons game finished first and after an eternity, Ferguson could be seen racing on to the park to congratulate his side and confirm that the unbelievable had happened. Only a ten-goal reverse at Firhill can prevent the Dons from being crowned champions and that is never going to happen.

FERGIE: “I CANNOT BEAR TO BE A LOSER”

Alex Ferguson reflected on Aberdeen’s first title win in twenty-five years as the Dons ended a 15 year Old Firm stranglehold on the title. “In my two years with the club I’d reached two League Cup finals and two Scottish Cup semi-finals. Some managers would be happy with that, but I regarded it as failure. If I hadn’t won something within a reasonable time here I’d have quit. I cannot bear to be a loser.” He then reflected on the loss of assistant Pat Stanton. “I’ll miss Pat greatly, but I understand his reasons for wanting to manage a team of his own. He’ll do a superb job no matter where he goes.” Fergie now wants to try and seal the Pittodrie futures of Archibald and Miller.

LIVERPOOL ARE CHAMPIONS OF ENGLAND

Liverpool beat Aston Villa 4-1 at Anfield today to clinch the English title. Avi Cohen made his debut and became the first Israeli international to play in the football league. His first major contribution was to turn the ball into his own net to level the match at 1-1 after Johnson had put the home side ahead. However, 25 minutes later he scored his first Liverpool goal to put his side back in the lead. Further goals from Johnson and Kennedy sealed the win and the title.

MASTER OF SUSPENSE DIES AGED 80

Sir Alfred Hitchcock, who was knighted earlier this year, has died of renal failure at his Bel Air home. He was aged 80. He was one of the few film directors who was instantly recognisable and he was well known for his brief cameo appearances in his films. After finding success with “The Thirty-Nine Steps” and “The Lady Vanishes,” Hitchcock moved to Hollywood. There he enjoyed further success and won an Oscar for “Rebecca.”

BOBBY COSIDERS HIS FUTURE AFTER 15 YEARS

As Aberdeen look to the dawn of a new era, goalie, Bobby Clark was considering his future as he completed his domestic medal haul 15 years to the day he signed for the Dons. “Winning the title has removed the last great challenge from my career. There’s nothing left to strive for. I’m not sure what the future holds.”

GUNMEN IN IRANIAN EMBASSY SIEGE

Earlier this week six gunmen stormed the Iranian embassy in South Kensington and took 26 hostages. They are demanding the release of Arab prisoners in Khuzestan and their safe passage out of the U.K. The government has said that safe passage will not be granted and a siege situation is currently on-going.
