Aberdeen FC Community Trust is delighted to announce Liz Bowie has joined the award-winning charitable organisation as its new Chief Executive.
AFCCT, crowned the ‘Best Professional Football Club’ in the prestigious 2019 UEFA Grassroots Awards, was established in March 2014 with the vision “to provide support and opportunity to change lives for the better”.
Formerly responsible for a team of fundraising and alumni professionals at Aberdeen University, Liz joins AFCCT with a wealth of experience in charitable engagement, having been with the University for 21 years most recently as Director of Development and Alumni Relations.
AFCCT Chairman, Duncan Skinner, is excited about the new appointment for AFCCT, “While 2019 was a significant year for the Trust, where we have continued to grow our support to the North East Community, we continue to look to build upon this success and our new management team, under the guidance of Liz, will move forward in the weeks and months ahead with further growth in mind.
“We have exciting new challenges and opportunities ahead, not least with our significant involvement at Cormack Park and the completion of our Grassroots Soccer Mindset pilot programmes at Lochside and Buchanhaven schools.
“There remains a clear need for our services in our communities and I’m sure the fantastic team at AFCCT will continue to deliver award winning programmes across the region in even greater numbers in the future.”
Liz added, “I’m really excited by the work that is going on, not only with AFCCT, but also the club as a whole.
“I’m privileged to be working with an enthusiastic team here but there is a real opportunity now to diversify our projects and really take them to another level, particularly with the recent relocation to Cormack Park.
“The thought of having a real impact on local communities was an attractive proposition and I am keen to explore how our work can be placed on the international agenda, tapping in to those Dons supporters across the world who have a lifelong affiliation with the club, in a similar way that former students enjoyed in my previous employment.”
The Dons match against Ross County on 22nd February will mark AFC Community Trust Day 2020 and we would encourage all supporters to come along to the game and celebrate the great work being done by the Trust in our local community.
Over 1,000 match tickets will be donated to schools, community groups and sports teams throughout the North East and all tickets for U18’s will be just £1!
