Red Matchday Issue 14 Preview

Author Malcolm Panton (Red Matchday Editor)

The Red Matchday team during the winter break were busy producing a special Scottish Cup edition for this weekend.

“Including many features about The Dons in the competition, there is also an in-depth interview with Aberdeen skipper Joe Lewis as the keeper looks ahead to the second half of the season.

“One of the reasons that I signed for the club was to win silverware. I haven’t managed to do it yet and it is something that I have my heart set on doing at this football club.

“But we only take one game at a time. We are not going to get carried away. We need to make sure that we are motivated to get as far as we can and hopefully win the competition.

“It comes back to the consistency I mentioned earlier, something we need to find from now until the end of the season. You’re not going to win a cup by fluking it and only putting in the odd good performance. It is difficult to win this competition, no matter how big a club you are.

“It has to be a big target of ours.

“I’ve really enjoyed being captain here.

“It’s been a little bit of a learning curve but it’s pretty much what I expected.

“On the pitch, I have always tried to be a leader whether I am wearing the armband or not. You do feel a bit more of a responsibility for the team’s performances. You can’t really control what other people are doing that much but you try and influence everyone positively before the game. I’m always really proud to walk the team out. Every time I do it, it is a great moment.

“There are a few off the field things to deal with. You have to keep the lads in check with fines and stuff like that. I have had to fine myself a few times as well! That was fun.

“There were witnesses when the boys brought it to my attention, so I had to pay my fines! There’s no favouritism here!”

Plus lots more that will hopefully keep you entertained before kick-off. As always, if you can’t make the game, you can buy this and every issue of Red Matchday on the Curtis Sport website by clicking here.

Thanks for your support of the programme and enjoy the game tomorrow. COYR!
