It was a great night for Aberdeen FC Women at the SWF Awards last Saturday in Glasgow, Bayley Hutchison won the Sport Scotland Youth Player of the Year award.

Eilidh Shore was named the SWFL Division One Player of the year. The SWFL Coach of the Year Prize went to AFC Co-Managers Emma Hunter and Harley Hamdani and Aberdeen were named SWFL Team of the Year.

The side, in their inaugural season as AFC Women, won the SWFL 1 North title and also produced an excellent run in the SSE Women’s Cup.

Speaking on RedTV for a feature that will be aired shortly, Coach of the Year Emma said:

“It was a fantastic night. A great end to a great season really.

“And the occasion was fantastic. The SWF put on a great awards evening for everyone involved within the Women’s game in Scotland.

“We were able to get together as a team and reflect and enjoy the season that has gone by.

“I guess it was a really good opportunity to get a feel for just how well we did this season and it was nice to do that. To get the team award plus some individual prizes was extra special.

Captain Kelly Forrest added:

“It was a really good night. SWF put on a great event which was well attended. It was a very good night for AFC coming away with four trophies.

“It was the icing on the cake for the season we have had. To get recognition from other club’s and other players is really really nice and means a lot.

“At first it did not really sink in, just how well we had done over the course of a long campaign.

“So Saturday night, regardless of the awards, just being together and relaxing and being able to take it all in and seeing how well we have done was really important.

“To go through the whole season unbeaten in the league was a great achievement. It was one of our targets as I always said that we needed to win the league and win it with conviction, and I think we did that. We went unbeaten and we scored loads of goals and did concede many.”

Finally, we are delighted to also mention that Red Matchday columnist and Scotland captain Rachel Corsie won the Outstanding Academic and Athletic Achievement award.

Well done to all the winners! For a full listing of all the prize’s given out on Saturday night at the MG Alba SWF Annual Awards 2019 please click here

In the next couple of weeks we will start to build up to the new season in the second tier of Scottish Women’s football and we will have news of the AFC Women’s squad for 2020 which includes some new signings.
