Aberdeen extended their lead at the top of SWFL1 North with a dominant 8-1 win over Deveronvale Ladies in Banff. The visitors were on fine form despite some of the starting line-up playing their third game in four days.

Harley Hamdani and Emma Hunter freshened up the starting eleven with Amy Phillips and Francesca Ogilvie replacing Carrie Doig and Sophie Jamieson from the weekend line-up.

The visitors were on the front-foot from the off and showed no signs of tiredness following the short turnaround since Sunday afternoon’s win over Buchan. Both Francesca Ogilvie and Bayley Hutchison came close to scoring in the opening few minutes.

Hutchison then had the ball in the net in the 7th-minute but the whistle had already blown for offside as she was played in by Eilidh Shore. Amy Phillips also had a looping header land just wide as the pressure grew on the Deveronvale defence.

Aberdeen’s dominance was finally rewarded as they took a deserved lead in the 19th-minute of the match. Eva THOMSON played a neat one-two with Phillips on the left and when she collected the return, fired a powerful shot onto the top corner to open the scoring.

It was nearly two just minutes later as Loren Campbell struck the woodwork. Campbell had made a good run down the right and after exchanging passes with Ogilvie, saw her deflected effort come back off the upright.

The second goal wasn’t long in coming and Thomson was again involved as the Dons doubled their lead. The Scotland under-17 youngster took the ball for a run down the left wing and her dangerous front post cross was turned in by an unfortunate Vale defender for 2-0 after 30-minutes.

Ogilvie and Hutchison almost combined for the third when the former got on the end of great pass by Natasha Bruce, only to see her cross turned behind for a corner. The visitors made it 3-0 from the resulting corner as Ogilvie swung it in, Kelly Forrest challenged in the air and PHILLIPS smashed it in from close range.

The home-side had only just got the game back underway when Aberdeen went 4-0 up. HUTCHISON found herself completely unmarked on the edge of the box and made no mistake with a calm finish with ten minutes remaining in the half.

There was still time for a fifth goal before half-time as Hutchison grabbed her fifth goal in the last two matches. Eilidh Shore played an incisive ball in behind the Vale defence and HUTCHISON ran through on the keeper to net her team’s fifth.

The second half started as the first ended, with the league-leaders dominating possession and creating chances. Hutchison fired the first attempt of the half just wide only three minutes after the re-start and then Thomson sent a long-range effort over the bar just two minutes later.

The Reds only had to wait until the 53rd-minute to extend their lead as Thomson grabbed her second of the match. Campbell sent a good ball down the right for Hutchison to collect and measure a square ball into the area. THOMSON was waiting and she lashed a fine finish high into the net for 6-0.

Just three minutes later, Aberdeen made it seven thanks to another emphatic finish. Shore got the assist as she played OGILVIE in down the right-side and she made no mistake with a side foot finish across the Vale goalkeeper.

The visitors took the chance to freshen things up as Sophie Brown and Sophie Jamieson replaced scorers Ogilvie and Thomson. Despite their big lead, the Dons weren’t for letting up and they scored their eighth of the match in the 67th-minute.

Hutchison was brought down as she rounded the goalkeeper leaving the referee no choice other than to award a penalty. As she did on Sunday, SHORE stepped up and blasted her penalty high into the net.

Jessica Broadrick made way for Carrie Doig as the visitors made their final substitution of the night but the chances kept coming as Hutchison narrowly shot wide as she nearly grabbed her second consecutive hat-trick.

Deveronvale managed a few speculative efforts which were easily dealt with by Anna Blanchard in the Dons goals as the home-side went in search of a consolation. Campbell then had a powerful shot well blocked at the other end as Aberdeen tried to add to their tally.

The hosts got their consolation goal with two minutes of the match remaining, a rare lapse in the Dons defence allowing Vale to get on the score-sheet. The night belonged to Aberdeen though as they extended their lead at the top of the league with another handsome victory.
