Paul Sheerin spoke to Andrew Shinie after the young Dons latest pre-season win.

“The disappointing part of today was conceded.

“The penalty we conceded, I’ve not seen it back in terms of the handball, but the biggest frustration for me was the build up to it.

“Ethan was a bit too weak in letting the boy in too easily and we should have dealt with the cross a bit better. So that was a bit more of a frustration rather than the actually awarding of the penalty.

“But the response to it was brilliant, a really good goal from Bruce.

“And probably similar to Deveronvale, we dominate possession.

“I thought we forced things first half that we didn’t need to. I thought when we had a bit more patient in the second half we were much better for it and we created chance after chance.

“We just need to start becoming more clinical in what we are doing and that’s the biggest thing.”

“That’s the pleasing factor was creating so many chances.

“They obviously sat in with a back five and made it difficult for us. When trying to break them down, I thought we did that much better in the second half than the first which was encouraging.

“They took on board what we told them at half time.

“It’s a bigger concern if you’re not creating opportunities but the fact is we are.

“We just wanted to get him minutes (Connor McLennan).

“We’ve managed to do that, just a wee top up in terms of where he’s been and we needed to start getting minutes in him. It was always the plan to get 30 minutes or so. We thought it was better to start him rather than bring him on as a sub. At least he had the pace of the game and he’s had a good warmup. That was the only thought process to that (taking him off early).

“He needed that hour (Chris Antoniazzi).

“Good for him. I thought he started a bit sluggish but I thought second half he made the difference for us in terms of those wee areas of the pitch that he finds.

“He is really hard to pick up and his movement in between the lines was good. So really pleased for him as well.

“Miko also got ninety minutes and Bruce got ninety and two goals – again – so in the main it’s been a good exercise for us.

“There’s still plenty work to be done but it’s still early doors.

“I keep saying to them before every game that it’s another level and another level and as long as we keep finding those levels upwards, hopefully by the time we come to the Aberdeenshire Shield and then the Challenge Cup we’ll be getting closer to the finished article.

“We know with the younger boys there will always be those dips but it’s about how we deal with them when they do come. We’ll be ready for that.”

The Development side are next in action when they travel to play Highland League outfit Huntly on Tuesday.
