Aberdeen Football Club is pleased to announce that global charity Grassroot Soccer will feature on the back of AFC playing kit throughout the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons.

Last summer it was announced that Grassroot Soccer, Aberdeen Football Club and AFC Community Trust (AFCCT) had entered into a formal partnership, the first of its kind in the UK for the global football-based charity focused on adolescent health and wellbeing.

The AFC squad will now carry the Grassroot Soccer logo on the back of their shirts in a first for both the club and the charity.

With supporters like Sir Alex Ferguson, and donors including the Gates and Ford Foundations, Grassroot Soccer has extensive experience and proven success in educating young people on healthy living through a football-based curriculum.

Through the ongoing partnership with the club, Grassroot Soccer will work with AFC and AFCCT to roll out a football-inspired education programme for young people around mental health.

Grassroot Soccer was founded by Tommy Clark, son of legendary Aberdeen and Scotland goalkeeper Bobby Clark. Tom Crotty, the US-based businessman who became a member of the AFC Board earlier this year, is a major donor to the charity and a board member.

The organisation, which works with governments, multi-national corporations and partners worldwide to educate and inspire young people to live healthier and more productive lives, provides technical assistance to its partners including project design support, curriculum development, training delivery, organisational development and monitoring and evaluation.

The Grassroot Soccer logo will feature on the kit for the first time this evening for the Europa League 1st Qualifying Round 1st leg tie with RoPS Rovaniemi at Pittodrie.
