After today’s 3-1 victory over Kelty Hearts in Fife, AFC Women co-manager Emma Hunter gave us this reaction:

“The long break due to the injury to the Kelty player obviously had an influence on the game. We all wish her a speedy recovery.

“It was a hot day and it was difficult with such a long break. Also, everyone was a bit concerned with the injured player as well. We lost our focus.

“It is always going to be difficult restarting again after such a long break in play. And to be fair to Kelty, they came back into the game and I thought we struggled.

“The first five minutes of the second half, before the injury, we were really on it, but we then lost our impetuous and momentum a bit.

“However that is football and the important thing is that we still ground out a result at the end of the day. That was the main positive.

“We made two substitutes at half time because we thought they would tire and we wanted to bring on players who would add some energy. But during the break the Kelty players managed to get a second wind and as a team they regrouped. It also gave them a chance to talk about pressing us a bit more aggressively and higher up the pitch which we struggled with a little bit at times.

“Overall though we dealt comfortably with most things that were thrown at us.

“We created a lot of chances, but we still need to be better at taking them during a game. That is something we really need to focus on.

“Without being disrespectful, our scorelines should be higher than what we are getting at the moment. Today was another example of that because we had a lot of possession and created some good chances.

“It something we need to work on because we need to be more clinical when we get in and around the box and inside the area.

“So disappointed today we did not get more goals, however there were lot of positives from the overall performance.”
