MATCH REPORT

Aberdeen continued their scoring form in SWFL1 North with a 6-0 victory against Stonehaven Ladies at a cold Mineralwell Park.

Dons boss Emma Hunter made two changes to the side that saw-off East Fife last Sunday, with Lauren Gordon returning to the side in place of Chloe Gover and Melia Marquez replacing Anna Blanchard in goal.

It was a scrappy start to the match which wasn’t helped by the strong icy wind that was blowing across the field. Neither side managed to create any kind of clear-cut chances in the opening quarter-of-an-hour before both teams exchanged efforts on goal.

Eilidh Shore’s curling long range effort clipped the top of the Stonehaven crossbar in the fifteenth minute before the home side came even closer just a minute later. Elise Smith cut in from the left before forcing a great save from Marquez to keep the scores level.

Aberdeen began to take control of the game as the half went on but they struggled to find a way through the stuffy Stonehaven defence. The visitor’s chances were limited to shots from distance with both Shore and Gordon trying their luck from long range.

The visitors finally found their way to goal in the 36th minute as they opened the scoring. Bayley Hutchison gathered the ball on the right-side of the penalty area before squaring to SHORE who guided the ball high into the net beyond Stonehaven keeper Danielle Imray.

The Dons doubled their lead in the 43rd minute to put some shine on a first-half in which they struggled to find their best form. Hutchison was again the catalyst as her strong run down the right channel gave her space to cross into the box. GORDON had timed her run into the area perfectly and she side-footed the ball into the net for 2-0.

Aberdeen started the second period on the front-foot with Gordon firing a long-range effort wide in the opening seconds of the half. The visitors didn’t have to wait long for their third goal though.

Gordon headed a loose ball out to Amy Phillips who collected the knockdown on the left-wing before heading towards the by-line. Phillips then crossed for HUTCHISON who shot across Imray and into the far corner to put her side three-in-front.

The Dons were far slicker with their passing in the second half and a good move involving Phillips and Hutchison resulted in Shore hitting the crossbar for the second time in the match. It was 4-0 just a few minutes later though as Aberdeen extended their lead after 59-minutes.

Bayley HUTCHISON gathered the ball 25-yards out from goal in the centre of pitch before firing in a shot which took a big deflection, leaving Imray with no chance as it found the bottom corner of her net.

Stonehaven continued to defend doggedly as Aberdeen enjoyed the lions share of the second-half possession. Stoney’s attacking threat in the first-half had come from Smith and Lynsey Urquhart but the Dons managed to nullify that in the second period with Kelly Forrest and Carrie Doig rarely troubled at the heart of the defence.

Gordon went close to making it five with a right foot shot just minutes before the Dons got on the scoresheet again. Hutchison picked up the ball in midfield before bringing it forward and exchanging passes with Gordon. HUTCHISON received the return ball and from just inside the box, placed a right footed shot across Imray for 5-0.

Stonehaven were reduced to ten in the final minute with when Kirsty McBain was ordered off before Aberdeen completed the scoring in stoppage-time. Gordon and Phillips combined on the left before Phillips sent the ball across the face of the Stoney goal. Substitute Sophie JAMIESON had got herself into the area to capitalise and get on the end of the cross to complete a 6-0 victory for Aberdeen.
