Red Lottery to close from Friday 30th November

The Red Lottery was formed over 20 years ago to support youth development at AFC and during that time has helped to launch the careers of many young football players, but in the last few years it has seen a steadily decline in membership to a point where it is no longer viable to carry on. Therefore, it has been decided that the Red Lottery should be closed with effect from Friday 30th November 2018.

The recently established AberDNA membership initiative, which has the support of almost 6,500 members, will support the Youth Academy as part of the mission to provide additional support to the entire Football Operation at the club.

Funds raised from AberDNA will be directed to the first team, directly supporting the football management team’s budget, to the youth academy, enhancing the ability to identify, recruit and inspire local young talent and towards helping to create a high-performance environment with a best-in-class Football Medicine and Sports Science and Performance Analysis support structure for all professional and Youth Academy players.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all Red Lottery members for their invaluable support over many years. Bringing young players through our Youth Academy all the way to the first team has never been easy, but each young player who has made that journey has been helped in no small way by your support.

If you pay by standing order, you should arrange with your bank to stop any further payments immediately. If you continue to pay, any payments will be aggregated onto your account and you will be entered in all draws up until 30th November 2018 (or until your balance has expired whichever is the earliest). Standing orders are entirely under your control, so please contact your bank to arrange the cancellation as we cannot do this for you.

If you pay by direct debit, please note that we will stop taking direct debit payments as of Tuesday 20th November 2018, but you should also inform your bank to stop any direct debits after this date. The final direct debit taken will be added to your account and you will be entered in all draws up until 30th November 2018 (or until your balance has expired whichever is the earliest).

Those members paying via an agent can chose to continue payment up until the date of the last draw on 30th November 2018. Please ensure that your agent can get your payment to us prior to 11am on Friday 30th November 2018 in time to be included in the final draw.

The last Red Lottery draw will be performed on Friday 30th November 2018, following which all members who are paid in advance of this draw date have the following options:

  1. Members can have their unused contributions returned to them by means of cheque payment, or;
  2. Members can elect to donate their unused contributions to AFC Youth Academy, in keeping with the original purpose of the Red Lottery.

Note that the account to which standing orders, direct debits and payments via agents are currently being credited will be closed on 31st March 2019.

Any prize cheques issued for draws up until 30th November 2018 can be cashed as normal up to 31st March 2019, but thereafter will be returned to you unpaid by your bank. Any unused contributions not dealt with as above, will be held until 31st March 2019 and following this date, any unclaimed contributions will be deemed as a donation to AFC Youth Academy.
