The Dons number one spoke to RedTV afer the game on Sunday.
“Incredibly satisfying result.
“It was an incredible feeling winning that game, not just the result, but the way we got the win.
“I felt we deserved it for the resilience and character we showed. There was great courage defensively and on the ball.
“There were few opportunities at either end.
“They probably had more possession, but they had one shot from what I can remember on target. When you defend that resiliently as a team and work that hard and concentrate that hard for the 90 minutes you deserve everything you get.
“It was a blow losing Andy in the first half. I think Andy is recovering well and hopefully he makes a speedy recovery. Max came in and did a great job. It is not easy. I have never done it, but I can imagine as an outfield player, having to come on in a big game like that, when the tempo is fast, it is very difficult, but Max coped very well. He is a great player and was unlucky not to start the game. The manager had some difficult decisions to make now that we are getting the full squad together. Max has come on and shown his quality and his mental strength, as did everyone.
“For me it was a concentration game. I had one save down to my right, plenty of balls into the box, a few that came to me and others I could not come for. It was a joy to watch the lads defend in front of me. We had an outstanding defensive unit. Mikey and Scott defended the box so well. Anytime they got to the by-line, looked for a cutback, it was not a coincidence that the ball fell to one of our players every time. It was great positioning and reading of the game from the two at the back.
“It was very enjoyable to play behind those two today.
“I thought we looked dangerous on the break and set pieces were always going to be important. They are important in any game.
“It was a great goal. The quality of the ball from Niall and the header from Lewis. He had the sheer determination to get on the end of it and that desire epitomised the performance.
“He is a hell of a player. We are very lucky to have him, and he has big future ahead of him at Aberdeen. He is very mature on and off the field for his age.
“We are not under any illusions, we have not been playing exceptional stuff in terms of free flowing football. But there are different ways to win games, and when you dig out results like that, you can’t question the lads character.
“From a goalkeeping point of view, it was pleasing. Yes we want to score plenty of goals and play good football going forward, but hopefully that result can be a catalyst for the league campaign and the performances will come. Hopefully we can get some momentum from the league and take it into the final.
“The fans who came were outstanding. The was a number of reasons whey we did not have the numbers and from a players viewpoint, we completely understand why people haven’t been able to come. Hopefully the ones who did make the trip enjoyed it. We do feel the support we get from the city, so we hope that everyone, wherever they were watching, were able to enjoy it.”
