Bobby Clark to be inducted into AFC Hall of Fame

This afternoon we are delighted to announce that our legendary goalkeeper Bobby Clark is the second inductee to the 2018 AFC Hall of Fame.

The AFC Hall of Fame will take place on Thursday 1st November with four Dons legends set to take their rightful place in AFC History. Last week it was announced that Eoin Jess would be the first inductee.

The event, sponsored by Aberdeen Taxis, which will take place in the Marcliffe Hotel, is now SOLD OUT.

Established in 2004, the AFC Hall of Fame recognises players and managers who have reached the pinnacle of their profession, making a significant contribution to the reputation of this historic club.

Bobby was one of the first signings made by Eddie Turnbull and had a glittering career for The Dons amassing 594 appearances between 1965 and 1980. During that time Clark created a British club record in 1971 when he went 13 consecutive games without conceding a goal and won every domestic trophy whilst playing for Aberdeen lifting the Scottish Cup in 1970, the League Cup in 1976 and the Premier League in 1980.

A distinguished shot stopper Clark was capped 17 times for Scotland while at Aberdeen and was part of the squad that travelled to Argentina for the 1978 World Cup. Whilst retaining his place in the team towards the end of his time at Pittodrie, Bobby became a coach and mentor for younger players alongside renowned coach Lenny Taylor leaving behind a legacy that Dons supporters would be able to enjoy for years to come.

After leaving the granite city Bobby embarked on a coaching career which took him as far afield as Zimbabwe and New Zealand but it was in the United States where he had the greatest impact. That was thanks to his work in College soccer at Stanford, Dartmouth and Notre Dame where he served as a coach for 16 years, establishing himself as one of the most respected coaches in US soccer before retiring in 2017.

Welcome to the AFC Hall Of Fame, Bobby.

Over the next few weeks we will be revealing the identity of the two other players who will be inducted alongside Bobby and Eoin at this year’s event.
