Dons defender Scott McKenna rounded off a phenomenal season when he was named captain of the national side against Mexico in the Azteca Stadium overnight. The match also saw his club captain, Graeme Shinnie make his first start in what was a very inexperienced side named by Alex McLeish. The home side had accumulated over 500 international caps between them, Scotland just 27.

A goal from Giovanni dos Santos on 13 minutes was the only one of the game despite the home sides’ domination, in a match played at high altitude.

Kenny McLean & Ryan Christie also started the match, making it 4 players who played for The Dons this season in the starting XI.

Next up for the Scots is a friendly match against Belgium at Hampden Park in September, before the Nations League campaign gets under way.
