Joe Lewis | semi-final reaction

Post Match Quotes from the Hampden:

“It’s difficult to explain today. Obviously everyone’s bitterly disappointed with the performance and the result.

“We started ok but then allowed Motherwell to get a foot hold and to do what they do well in allowing them to get the ball forward early to their front men who are a handful.
And we didn’t quite deal with that.

“As I say we allowed them to do that too easily and get a foot hold in the game. When the ball is coming forward like that and they’ve got two big strong lads causing a bit of carnage it’s always difficult to deal with – you hope the ball falls to our feet, we can clear and start to impose our game, but we weren’t able to do that.

“I know the lads in the dressing room wanted it as much as anyone could and it’s just tremendously disappointing.

“It’s probably difficult for people to understand that when you look at the game and look at the performance.

“But I can assure you the lads wanted it just as much as Motherwell, but unfortunately the performance didn’t show that.

“We didn’t impose our game either. That’s their strength – they’re big and strong and they have decent quality as well. You can’t just say they are a long ball team. At the end of the day they’ve beaten us 3-0 – football is all about scoring goals. They were fairly clinical with their finishing. The first goal I think is handball but it’s probably difficult for the referee to see that because his arm is by his side but he definitely makes a full movement to it. The official behind the goal was probably just the wrong side of it so that’s frustrating. I think the second one is a foul on Kari but we don’t want to make excuses about that because we didn’t deserve to win the game and they did at the end of the day.

“They will define the campaign [The 5 post-split games].

“We need to be mature and strong mentally to recover from that. And use the experience we’ve got in the dressing room, get ourselves back together and make sure we show a massive reaction for these five games which are huge games.”
