Partick Post Match | Adam Rooney

“I am sure it was a great game to watch.

“It was a very tough game to play in at times. It was end to end.

“It was such an open game there was always going  to be chances at both ends.

“We got off to a flyer and at that point some might have thought it was going to be like the game here at the end of the season. But then we lose a couple of soft goals.

“At half time Gary Mackay-Steven said to me this has 4-3 written all over it! It was nice to get on and score the winning goal.

“Sitting on the bench watching the game, you want to get on to try and make an impact. To get on and score was a great feeling. After the injury it feels like my season is only starting now. It is always nice scoring a winner but the main thing was the three points.

“It was a great ball in from Ryan (for my goal). We have so many players now who have that ability to put that type of ball in. We have seen it already this season. Players who can really get their foot around the ball. Even if you miss it, there is still a chance the ball will go in. it is a dangerous ball to put in the box.

“It also shows the options we have throughout the team now. Whoever is out there can produce that bit of quality needed to win games.

“We want to win every game regardless of the opponents and the competition. We always believe we can go and win the game. When a game is as open as that is probably suits us because of the attacking players we have.

“With the players we have we always believe we can win these tight games.

“We have played some good football so far this season and hopefully we will get stronger.”

“It is always nice to be top of the table. It is where you want to be. We spoke about winning these first four league games up to the international break. We felt they were all winnable and we had that focus needed. Thankfully we have maximum points going into the break and hopefully when we come back we can continue that run.

“As I say from a personal point of view it has been a frustrating start to the season for me with the injury. You don’t want to be sitting watching the lads play. You want to be out there playing. Any time you get on you want to show what you can do. Hopefully I can keep scoring goals.

“I don’t believe I had to go on and prove a point. I think I have done that over a number of seasons here. I have scored goals in the past and I am confident I will score goals this season. It was just really frustrating to have a good pre-season, play in all the friendly games and I was feeling confident, and then pick up an injury. To miss the two European games, then the League Cup game and then the start of the league was very disappointing. You are playing catch up with your fitness. The only good thing is that the team are winning and flying at the moment. It is worse if you are out injured and the team are stuttering a bit. Thankfully the manager has enough options.

“Since I have been here strikers have always come in and I believe I have held my own. I want to play every week. Every player would say that. You don’t train every week to go out and sit on the bench. As a striker you want to be out there scoring goals and winning games.”
