Statoil February Award Winners

29 March 2017

Statoil is the exclusive Aberdeen Football Club ‘Talent Partner’ with the emphasis specifically on the future development of elite youth players through the AFC Youth Academy. The Statoil “Heroes of Tomorrow” sponsorship concept supports talented young people, not just in sport but also in culture and education to help them achieve their ambitions. The Statoil Young Talent and Talent of the Month awards are awarded to players who show an exceptionally high standard of talent during Academy training sessions and matches at club and international level.

The winner of the Statoil Young Talent of the Month Award for February went to Ethan Duncalf.  Ethan who plays for the Academy’s Under 12s side performed to a very high level throughout the month of February, with top performances against Hearts and Motherwell, whilst contributing with 2 goals and 4 assists in his last four games.  Ethan has adapted well to the move to 11-a-side and played in a number of positions during February, with some very strong attacking performances.  Under 12s Coach, Scott Duncan was pleased with Ethan’s recent progress stating, ‘Ethan has worked really hard to improve his left foot and decision making and we are now seeing the results of his efforts on match days.  His attacking play was a real strength to his February performances, but he’s also continued to show a real determination to work hard when we don’t have the ball’.

Lyall Booth was presented with the Statoil Talent of the Month for February.  Lyall, who is an Under 14 player, has trained and played up with the U15s throughout the season to challenge his potential.  Having broken his foot in a match against Sparta Rotterdam in pre-season, he gradually returned to full fitness and started 2017 with some excellent performances during February in matches against Dundee United, Forth Valley and Partick Thistle.  Head of Academy Coaching, Gavin Levey praised his recent form saying ‘We’ve all been really impressed with Lyall’s recent performances. He’s very focused, determined and competitive in his training and matches and has very good fitness levels for a young footballer playing at left back a year above himself.  I’ve no doubt he’ll continue to improve between now and the end of the season and build on his top performances that we have seen so far.’
