Adam Rooney | "actually hit both shins!"

“I said in my interview in the matchday programme today that I am happy to score a goal even if it comes off my shin a couple of yards out. I think that one actually hit both shins!

“I think the players need to aim for my shins from now on.

“I specialise in those. Not many players can do that.

“I missed a sitter in the first half so I said to Jonny (Hayes) from now on just put it on to my knees or my shin. It was a great ball in by Kenny (McLean) though. It was the same the same with Niall (McGinn), getting a lot of balls into the box it makes it difficult for defenders. “As a striker you know that there will be the odd occasion where a defender or goalkeeper makes a mistake that allows you to get a tap in. So you just keep getting in there and hoping one comes off, thankfully it did today.

“I try my best (to score with an overhead kick)! I scored one for Swindon a few years ago. I have been trying it in training and I want to get one before the end of the season.

“It was a tough afternoon. They are a good side. They are well organised, they have some good players at the back – Davies and Quinn are good experienced centre backs and made it difficult for you. And going forward they have some very talented players as well. We knew it was going to be a difficult game so we are delighted to get the three points and we move on to Tuesday.

“The lads who came on today they gave us a massive lift.

“Miles did well. The pace of Miles caused problems. Straight after coming on he got in behind them and put a good ball into the box. I think that maybe caused them to drop a bit deeper which then freed up our players to get on the ball a bit more than they had been. I thought Miles was excellent, as were all the subs. I think that has been a common theme for a while now, lads coming off the bench to help us get a win. Thankfully it happened again today.

“We've been on a great run and when we're playing so well and dominating games I think we're making our own luck at times. We could have had a couple more in the game, I think the goalkeeper has made a few good saves as he seems to do quite often against us.

“We knew it would be a difficult game, but it was just about getting the three points today. We're delighted to get the win.

“It shows the character that we have in the team and we're on a good run just now. We just have to be patient in games where, unlike Motherwell, we don't go in 4-0 up at half time. Sometimes you just have to grind it out and we did that today.

“It's obviously been a great weekend for us in terms of other results. Things can change fairly quickly in football so we just have to make sure that we are ready for Hamilton and keep ticking the wins off.

“For now, we just have to make sure we look ahead to the next game.

“The cup quarter final will take care of itself, we just have to focus on Hamilton for now. We got beat down there at the start of the season, we've had a few dodgy results down there so we just have to make sure we're fully focused so that it doesn't happen again.

“We just want to keep the run going.”
