SC5RD | Tony Docherty Post Match

12 February 2017

Tony Docherty

“I thought the dominance of the performance merited us getting a result and getting through to the next round.

“I thought our pressing was great. Our midfield dominance got us into the final third. I thought what you saw today was an outstanding performance from Scott Fox in the Ross County goal.

“When it gets to that stage in the game you do start thinking to yourself is it going to be one of those days?

“But credit to our boys they kept going and to get the winning goal the way we did, from a very an unlikely source was pleasing. We have done that quite a bit this season, maybe scored through a defender from a set play. That is important, to have everyone chipping in with goals.

“I think you saw a really strong Aberdeen performance on the pitch today.

“When you are dominated in all areas of the pitch but can’t find a breakthrough then it is easy for the boy’s head to drop. But the character and talent we have now, we have the answers in the dressing room.

“Partick Thistle last week was a similar type of game when we had to grind down the opposition.

“And Ross County are a good team. They are a very good opponent. This is a difficult place to come. And we knew it was going to be a very tough game today.

“I think the game was a fantastic advert for Scottish football.

“Joe has made a good save at the end. We were a bit angry that the boy had a free header inside the area but that is why Joe is there. He has done it numerous occasions for us this season. Even after that he came out and took some good crosses.

“I would like to single out Joe because we are racking up a lot of clean sheets at the moments and that gives us a platform to go and win matches likes today.

“We will enjoy watching the draw tomorrow because we have come through such a tough tie.”
