AFCCT Challenge Match
AFC Former Players v The Red Army
Saturday 3rd September, 2pm Kick-off
Harlaw Park, Inverurie
On Saturday 3rd September a team of Aberdeen FC Former Players, led by Russell Anderson, will take on a team of AFC supporters in the inaugural AFCCT Challenge Match at Harlaw Park in Inverurie.
The match will raise funds for those who were affected by the flooding throughout Inverurie and Ballater earlier this year. AFC’s partner charity, Aberdeen FC Community Trust (AFCCT), will also benefit from a share of the proceeds to help continue their work throughout the North East.
We can now reveal the AFC FPs squad that Russell has assembled:
Brian Irvine, Barry Robson, Paul Sheerin, Robert Connor, Mark Perry, Chris Clark, Darren Mackie, David Rowson, Jamie Buchan, Scott Thomson, Eugene Dadi, Dougie Bell, Steve Tosh, Andy Roddie, John Gardiner, Stephen Beckett, Malcolm Kpedekpo, Colin Milne, Robbie Hedderman, Russell Anderson.
Former Dons captain Russell Anderson took on the task of rounding up a team of former players and it was a task that he was more than happy to take on through his involvement with AFCCT.
“This is something that I have seen other teams doing successfully and hopefully it is the first of many events where we can help to raise funds for the local community. From a personal point of view I am looking forward to getting back on the pitch with some former teammates and seeing some familiar faces once again. With the match being scheduled during an international weekend I hope that as many Dons fans as possible can make it along to support the fixture.”
Former Aberdeen and Scotland boss, and current AFC Director, Craig Brown has given his backing to the fixture and will be in one of the dugouts as manager on the day. In the opposite dugout Craig will be joined by the most legendary goal scorer in the history of AFC with Joe Harper set for a stint as manager of one of the sides.
Local firm Apex Tubulars have also shown their support for the event as sponsors of the Former Players team.
The former Dons will line-up in a custom made white strip with the AFC Supporters set to Don the famous red shirt for the fixture.
