FK Ventspils | Pre Match Conference

Englishman Paul Ashworth is the Head Coach at FK Ventspils. As is customary Paul conducted his pre-match media conference at Pittodrie Stadium before his side trained on the pitch this evening. You can watch his conference in full on RedTV by clicking here

Paul came through the youth system at Norwich City where he played for the side at schoolboy level before setting up PASS Soccer Schools, a national company. He later worked for Cambridge United and Peterborough United. Ashworth was appointed as the first team coach and assistant manager at Peterborough by the then manager Barry Fry.

In 2001, he moved to Latvia and went on to manage FK Ventspils, FK Riga and Skonto Riga, as well as taking over at Russian side FC Rostov as Sporting Director. He spent five years at Skonto, who are regarded as the biggest club in Latvia, and in European competition under Ashworth’s stewardship Riga faced Jeunesse d’Esch, Molde FK, Dinamo Minsk and Derry City.

Paul worked as a Technical Director in Nigeria from May 2010 to 2014. He was Manager/ Technical Director at Sunshine Stars Football Club, a Nigerian Premier League team, for six months before moving back to Latvia to be the Head Coach of FK Ventspils in 2015.

Paul, who was born in the Norfolk village of Buxton, holds a UEFA A Licence and a UEFA Pro Licence and is brother of the FA’s Technical Director, Dan.
