FIVE THINGS | Miles Storey
Miles Storey officially joined the Dons on the 1st of July after his contract at Swindon Town expired and could make his debut this Thursday at home to FK Ventspils in the Europa League. Ahead of that match we have identified five reasons to be optimistic about the frontman’s arrival:
Match Winner – He wins when he scores…
Miles boasts a very impressive 83% win rate when he manages to find the back of the opposition’s net. Aberdeen’s new man has scored in 23 professional games and subsequently won in 19 of them, with 1 draw and 3 losses. Furthermore 10 out of Miles’ 24 goals have been winning goals, showing that Aberdeen have recruited something of a match winner.
Impact Player – Stormed onto the scene as an 18 year-old against Aston Villa
Storey made his debut appearance for Swindon at the young age of 17 in September 2011, however it would be his performance against Premier League outfit Aston Villa, who were managed by Paul Lambert, in 2012 which would enhance his reputation as a promising talent.
Three days prior to the fixture Miles had netted his first ever professional goal, however the best was yet to come as he bagged a brace for the Robins in what was nearly a famous cup victory for Paulo Di Canio’s side. Storey had been thrown on in the 75th minute of the match, only to have a two goals to his name within six minutes to draw the tie level at 2-2.
Unfortunately for Miles, now-Liverpool striker Christian Benteke won the tie in the dying minutes for Villa, however it was an astonishing display for the young striker regardless of the result!
Potential – England U19 Cap
Miles’ impressive performances for Swindon did not go unnoticed as he was called up to the England U19 side in November of 2012 by coach Noel Blake for a friendly fixture versus Finland where he played 62 minutes before being replaced by Partick Thistle striker Adebayo Azeez.
Goal Threat – 13 Goals in Scottish Debut Season
The frontman had a fruitful Scottish debut season last year, as he contributed 13 goals and 2 assists for John Hughes’ Inverness Caledonian Side, including the first goal against Aberdeen in their 2-1 defeat at the Caledonian Stadium in late September. Thankfully now Miles will be looking to score goals for the Dons opposed to against them!
62% of Miles’ goals were scored away from home, 23% were notched with his left foot and 69% were scored in the first half of games.
Versatility
In addition to being able to play through the middle as a striker Storey has also shown that he is capable of playing in wide areas. Whether that is coming in from the left to give a goal threat on his favoured right foot or playing on the right using his pace to reach the by-line and create chances.
