“I am looking forward to a new chapter in my life.

“I always wanted to stay in the game. I always wanted to stay at this football club.

“My role will cover a whole spectrum of things.

“The description of what I am doing here, the manager has certainly got me working hard! It is something I am really looking forward to. I am going to be really busy but I like that. I like the challenge.

“It was an opportunity that I could not turn down and it is something I am really going to enjoy.

“I have known the manager since I was a youngster starting out in the game. We were then together at Dundee United for three years I think and then he took me here. I had great admiration for him as a player. As a player he was very hard working and very professional and I learned things from him. I have learned things from him as a manager. People know that we get on well. We have always had a good working relationship. He is someone I will continue to learn off.

“The manager has done a terrific job here. He, Tony, Paul Sheerin and all the backroom staff deserve a lot of credit. The club needs to keep things going and I want to be part of that. I will try and help and assist where I can.

“The Youth Academy has a lot going for it. There is a lot of content in there which is good. I will learn from the likes of Neil Simpson, Gavin Levey and Scott Anderson. It is all about how we can make the players better. How we can make the club better.

“Everyone has always asked me if I would like to be a manager one day and ultimately that is the case. But there is a lot I need to learn. There are a lot for things in football that go on in the back ground that people don’t know about. The opportunity for me to come and work with one of the best young managers in Scotland, I know I can learn from him. I can learn from the other coaches. I can learn how this club does things.

“All my focus at the moment is on is what can I do to help? What can I do to bring on the young players? How can I help the senior players?

“Coaching has changed a lot since I first came into the game. A manager needs more support with all the demands that are placed on him. So things have changed but the game always evolves. The game is always changing. People are always looking at how they can makes things better. So as a coach you have to look at how you stay ahead of the game.

“That is why our manager is so good. He is always thinking about what he can do to improve.”
