Pittodrie celebrates 30th Great Grampian Beer Festival

18 May 2016

Thousands of craft beer fans are set to descend on Pittodrie Stadium as it hosts the 30th Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) Great Grampian Beer Festival.

The event, which will feature more than 100 Real Ales, runs from Thursday 19th – Saturday 21st May and will see what’s thought to be the largest bar of its kind in Scotland at approximately 120 feet long, constructed at Pittodrie.

Organisers spend up to eight months planning for the Festival, which has taken place at the Club for the last ten years, with the physical set-up to transform the site for the expected crowd, spanning two days.

Debra Lorimer, Sales Manager for the venue’s catering and hospitality partner, Sodexo Prestige Venues & Events, said: “We’re thrilled to be hosting the Beer Festival again – it’s one of our favourite events as it really shows off the versatility of the venue, as well as bringing a lively and infectious buzz to the stadium.

“The bar is constructed on the indoor concourse, which is usually home to our match-day kiosks, and the area is transformed with rows of beer kegs. Our chefs have worked with organisers to develop a range of hearty food to compliment the ale on offer, including traditional pies, curry and chilli.”

Richard Jones, Festival Organiser, CAMRA Aberdeen, Grampian and Northern Isles Branch, said: “We’ll have some of the UK’s finest ales at this year’s Festival with discerning drinkers able to sample a range of stouts, bitters, old ales, speciality beers and ciders from more than 70 different UK breweries.

“We’ve staged the Festival at Pittodrie since 2006 – it’s a great venue offering the ideal space for our set-up. We expect to serve more than 14,000 pints over the three-day event and would encourage anyone interested in sampling the best of British ale to come along.”

The Festival opens from 3pm-midnight Thursday 19th May, 2pm-midnight Friday 20th May and noon-11pm Saturday 21st May 2016. Tickets, which include a commemorative Festival glass and programme, are £6 and available on the door.
