Craig Storie | St Johnstone preview

21 April 2016

“The Hearts game was very frustrating, probably the most disappointed I have felt after a match. It was even more disappointing after the good start we made to the game. We started really well but faded away after about 30 minutes and then could not get ourselves back into it.

“There is a fine line between success and failure, winning and losing. We started the game so strongly and could easily have been more than a few goals up with the chances we had. We had three or four clear cut chances.
“I had a chance as well. I was pleased with the way I hit it but the shot took a slight deflection. The referee gave it as a goal-kick but the deflection probably stopped it going in.

“I dream about scoring my first goal for the club all the time. I really want to score. I have scored quite a number for the U20s this season, in fact I think I am the top goal scorer at the moment with seven or eight. So I must be up there!

“In the 20s, being one of the older players I take on that responsibly and I know it is something I need to add to my game. I now need to take it into the first team. It is obviously harder scoring at that level and also more often than not when I play for the senior team I have to stay in front of the back four in a defensive role. I need to be disciplined and can’t just go up the park when I like. But hopefully I will still get a chance soon and take it.

“From a personal point of view, the one positive from the Hearts match was that I was picked to start the game which I was not expecting. Starting in big games like that does a lot for my confidence and will only help me grow as a player.

“We have to just win as many of the five games as we can and see what happens. We have to keep pushing ourselves on because at the very least we need to finish second and we know Hearts can still catch us.

“At the moment, the way it stands, we will only have about a month between our last league game and our first European game. So it is important we finish the season strongly to take some momentum into the new campaign.

“As I have missed a lot of games this season and last season, I am quite happy with the situation and the fact we will be back playing again so soon. I have worked hard to get my fitness up and hopefully I can stay injury free. Hopefully I can get a few more games between now and the end of the season. I will be working hard during the short break to come back even fitter and stronger than this season.

“It is an important time of the season for many footballers. Many of the young boys in the U20 dressing room are still fighting to get contracts. Even though they are tired they still need to do well to get another contract.

“St Johnstone will be a tough game. They are a good side. I played in the 4-3 game. I came on for the final 20 minutes along with Niall. During that time we scored two goals and then conceded two! They have taken quite a lot of points off us this season so it would be good to take some off them.
