Another Great Result for Aberdeen's FFIT Fans

20 April 2016

This week, AFCCT completed the latest deliveries of Football Fans In Training (FFIT) to a close, with some brilliant results achieved by the male and female groups. With over 30 participants across both male and female courses, it is just another sign of how AFCCT and Aberdeen FC help change people’s lives for the better.

FFIT is a health and wellbeing programme, funded by the SPFL Trust, where like-minded individuals attend a 12 week programme learning about healthy eating, portion control, and increasing physical activity with a view to losing weight and becoming fitter.

The majority of the participants are Aberdeen FC supporters, and the chance to come to Pittodrie every week and learn from AFCCT coaches, walk round the pitch, and become part of the Club was a huge inspiration.

The final week was measurement night, and the results showed what a fantastic journey the groups have been on throughout the 12 weeks.

The male FFIT consisted of 20 men, and the group lost 89.7kg, as well as shaving 126.7cm off their waist. The female group had slightly smaller numbers with 14 females shedding 54.2kg and 90cm off their waist.

The participants all said they feel fitter, healthier and happier and have enjoyed seeing their clothes become looser as the weeks progressed! One gentleman lost a whopping 18.5kg (3 stone) and he has totally changed his attitude on healthy eating and physical activity.

At the final session Aberdeen FC’s Shay Logan presented certificates to the male group with Club Captain, Ryan Jack, doing likewise for the female group.

Feedback from Participants:

“This has been the best experience of my life”

“I never thought I could ever lose this much weight”

“I loved being part of the greatest club in the world; becoming fitter and healthier as well is just superb – thanks to the coaches at AFCCT for all their help”

David Smith, Senior Community Projects Officer with AFCCT, said “Each group has been a pleasure to work with, and the participants must take huge credit and encouragement from what they have achieved. They worked as a team, supported each other, helped others when they needed it, and have all seen the benefit of healthier lifestyle – I am sure they will continue with their healthy lifestyle.”

FFIT will run again next season at Pittodrie, but for male football fans in the Garioch area, the next FFIT delivery will start in May at Harlaw Park, where AFCCT will deliver the course in partnership with Inverurie Loco’s and the Garioch Sports Trust funded by the NHS.

The next delivery is for men aged 35 – 65, and those interested should contact AFCCT Community Coach Inverurie Stephen Boddie on stephen.boddie@afccommunitytrust.org
