“It was a very tough game and it got even harder when we went a man down and then a goal down. I thought we actually started really well and their keeper made a couple of good saves.

“When we went down to ten men it was a real uphill task but we showed what this team is all about. We have 17 or 18 players who want to play every week and want to win every week. We stuck in there and got a very good result in the end.

“I think a lot of the credit (for getting me game ready) has to go to Gordon Marshall. He comes in every day and works me hard. Just like Jim last year he is great to work with. I have been very fortunate to have worked with two very good goalkeeping coaches since I have been up here. I really enjoy the sessions.

“When Danny got called back to Liverpool I knew there was a good chance I would play. You then step things up a bit and it is nice to have something to prepare for at the end of the week.

“I had a couple of saves and did ok. The best moment though was when I heard the full time whistle!

“It is sometimes difficult as a goalie because you can make three or four decent saves but then let one in in the last minute. Everyone then suddenly forgets about the saves you have made before in the game. The most important thing is when that whistle goes at the end of the game and you have the win.

“Adam (Collin) has come in and as the gaffer has said he has not come up here not to play. No goalkeeper joins a club without the full intention of playing in the first team. I have enjoyed working with Adam over the past couple of days. I know if I do not play well enough then there is a chance I will not be in the starting XI.

“It is the same with every position and it is the way it should be. Sometimes people make a bigger issue out of it when two goalkeepers are going for the one spot but as I say with every position you have players fighting it out for a spot in the team.

“Danny (Ward) was absolutely brilliant when he was up here. Obviously I was disappointed to have been left out but I could not complain one little bit because he was fantastic right from the first game and he got better and better during his stay at the club. That is why he is back at Liverpool pushing Simon Mignolet. I am sure he will get a chance at some point soon. Danny has a very big future ahead of him. He texted me last night before the game which was nice. I am will catch up with him again soon.”
