Jamie by Numbers

25 July 2015

Jamie Langfield was born on 22nd December 1979. One week earlier Alex Fergusons’ Aberdeen had defeated Jamie’s hometown team, St. Mirren, 2-0 at Pittodrie. Adverse weather conditions that winter ensured it would be the last match of the year and Aberdeen would not play again until the 5th of January leaving them with a backlog to make up before the 1979/80 campaign concluded.

Fast forward twenty-five years and Jamie signed a pre contract agreement with the Dons in February 2005. The keeper would move north in the summer from Dunfermline as manager Jimmy Calderwood prepared for the new season. Below we take a look at Jamie’s Pittodrie career in numbers.

1 The shirt that Jamie has made his own for most of his Aberdeen career. Jamie made his debut in August 2005 in a 3-0 win over Berwick Rangers in the League Cup.

2 The amount of penalties that Jamie kept out in the historic penalty shoot-out at Celtic Park in 2014 that ensured Aberdeen would lift their first piece of silverware in 20 years.

4 In 2009 Jamie earned a Scotland call up from George Burley for a World Cup qualifier in Norway. Gary Caldwell was red carded and it all fell apart for the Scots as they lost 4-0. Fortunately Jamie had not been selected to play between the sticks, but was nevertheless delighted with the recognition and a further call up for a double header against Moldova and Netherlands quickly followed.

5 The amount of European shutouts that Jamie has kept in his Aberdeen career. His first clean sheet was at Pittodrie against Dnipro in 2007. This helped build the platform for a hard fought 1-1 draw away where Jamie made several important stops and ensured a memorable European campaign that season.

8 The amount of clean sheets Jamie has kept in Scottish Cup competition. Unfortunately he made two semi-final appearances in the competition, but never made the final.

10 The amount of years Jamie has been at the club and has led to tonight’s honour. Well done and enjoy the moment!

16 The amount of European appearances that Jamie has made for the club. He has had some memorable moments with the 2007/08 campaign being the highlight with the matches against Dnipro and Copenhagen being the stand out games before going out bravely to the mighty Bayern Munich following another electric charged Pittodrie Euro night.

22 The amount of shutouts that Jamie made in season 2013-14. This was the best of his Aberdeen career and the tenth best in the clubs history. Last season between Jamie and Scott Brown the pair achieved 24 shutouts – the fifth best in the clubs history.

26 Jamie has performed a shut out against 26 different teams in his time at Pittodrie, but drawing a blank against Celtic has always eluded him. In fact Aberdeen have only had one clean sheet against the Glasgow club since Jamie’s 22nd birthday in 2002. That came in a cup replay at Celtic Park in 2008 when Derek Soutar kept goal in a 1-0 win.

120 The total amount of shutouts Jamie has achieved in his Aberdeen career starting on his debut against Berwick Rangers while his most recent was his last match against Partick Thistle in April.

336 The amount of appearances that Jamie has made from the club giving him the third most appearances for a goalkeeper behind Jim Leighton on 535 and Bobby Clark on 595. He is currently 18th in the overall list of Aberdeen appearances.

510 The amount of minutes that Jamie kept a clean sheet in his finest hour as Dons keeper. Following a 0-0 draw with Alloa that went to extra time and had Jamie saving the decisive spot kick to take them through. Aberdeen went on to beat Falkirk 5-0, Motherwell 2-0 and St Johnstone 4-0 to set up a League Cup Final against Inverness Caley Thistle. Neither side could score after 120 minutes leaving Jamie to become the hero in the penalty shoot out and collect his deserved winners medal as just reward.
