AFC Community Trust kit donation to Gathimba Edwards Foundation

08 July 2014

AFCCT recently donated AFC training kit to the Gathimba Edwards Foundation.

GE Foundation are an Aberdeen based charity providing immediate and sustainable support and opportunities for children in Kenya.

Ally Prockter, Chief Executive of AFC Community Trust is delighted that the kits will be going to good use:

“AFC Community Trust has been established as a charity in its own right to provide support and opportunity to others who need a bit of help. Although our charitable work will focus mainly on the North East of Scotland this initiative by the Gathimba Edwards Foundation provides an excellent opportunity to help a local athlete to provide much needed support in another part of the world. The arrival of the new AFC sponsor Saltire Energy resulted in us having some surplus kit and the timing of this request was perfect.

I wish the Gathimba Edwards Foundation the very best of luck in gathering together as much AFC kit as possible, and I am sure everything donated will bring a smile to someone associated with this terrific charity.”

Despite being a relatively young charity Gathimba Edwards Foundation is now committed to supporting 112 children across various parts of Kenya.  Myles explains the motivation behind their latest initiative:

“I first visited the Chaka Youth Football Project in 2012.  It was sad to see so many of the kids playing barefoot and wearing torn clothes but equally inspiring to see the enthusiasm they all had for football.

“As an Aberdeen fan and someone who is passionate about helping kids in Kenya it would be fantastic to see hundreds of the children running about in and being inspired by Dons tops.  Kenyans have countless role models from the athletics world but only a handful of footballers so it would be great to change that.”

Principal sponsor of the charity Prosource.IT have also donated some new boots, strips, balls and nets to the initiative and with a good number of other items already donated, Myles is on the hunt for a shipping company to support their plans:

“It would be great if someone with shipping links to Kenya was able to work with the foundation as part of our long term strategy aimed at creating the sort of opportunities for Kenyan children that so many of us take for granted in the UK.”

The drop point for kits is Aberdeen Sports Village, Linksfield Road, AB24 5RU.  The foundation are also happy to receive any children's footwear that is in good condition.  For more information please email info@gathimbaedwardsfoundation.org
