“It is testament to the effort of the players, it shows what can be done with a hungry group of talented boys.

“My assistant manager Tony Docherty has been invaluable to me, and the rest of my staff, so the award is as much for them as for me.”

“It is nice to see Aberdeen as a club in a positive light.

“The cup win was needed by the club and the city, the players have enjoyed that success and I think that has whetted their appetite to be successful in the cups again.

“We have had awards this year, a lot of plaudits so I think that shows how where we have come from as a club and hopefully this time next year there will be something similar again but there is still a lot of hard work to be done.

“I would like to think there is still a lot more to come from us.

“This season we still have three games left and we want to secure European football.

“Hopefully we can get the points to get a European spot. We are not obsessed with finishing second, if we can finish second then so be it.”

Ahead of this evenings event in Glasgow the SPFL Premiership Team of the Year was named. Aberdeen Players Mark Reynolds and Peter Pawlett were both included:

Team – Fraser Forster (Celtic), Graeme Shinnie (Inverness Caley Thistle), Virgil Van Dijk (Celtic), Mark Reynolds (Aberdeen), Andrew Robertson (Dundee United), Stuart Armstrong (Dundee United, Peter Pawlett (Aberdeen), Kris Commons (Celtic), Stevie May (St Johnstone), Kris Boyd (Kilmarnock), Nadir Ciftci (Dundee United)

Meanwhile Celtic midfielder Kris Commons won the PFA Scotland Premiership player of the year award. Dundee United’s left-back Andy Robertson was voted young player of the year.
