Quotes From The Dressing Room
Russell Anderson on RedTV
Aberdeen captain Russell Anderson spoke to RedTV after the game this afternoon:
“The conditions were not really conducive to playing good football. Despite that I thought when we could we did try and get the ball down and play. Overall I believe we deserved the three points. St Mirren are playing a lot better than they were earlier in the season, they are on a good run of form at the moment so to get the win, keep another clean sheet and score two goals is another good afternoon’s work.
“Scott Vernon deserves a lot of credit. The past two weeks he has led the line really well. He was always available for the ball, as he was last week. He knows the runs to make and I think he deserved his goal for all the hard work he put in last week and also today. I thought his link up play was really good at times.
“One of the reasons the manager brought Barry here was because of his delivery from set pieces. They are second to none. They will always give us a chance to score goals from corners and free kicks. Fortunately for us and for Barry it went straight in today. Like last week the second goal was important as it gave us a bit of a cushion. We were then able to play a bit more and see the game out.
“We are now coming into a very busy run of fixtures during the festive period. When you are playing and winning you can’t wait for the next game to come around. The players are full of confidence at the moment. During the next few weeks all you are basically doing is playing games, recovering and then preparing to play the next one. And then the whole cycle starts again. We have a lot of games coming up so the manager will be fully aware of which players he will want to use over the course of the festive period. We are fortunate to have near enough everyone in the squad fit again apart from Clark Robertson so hopefully it stays that way and the good form can continue.
“We have a very strong squad and that is good for the team overall. No one really feels their place in the team is guaranteed. If they drop their standards in any way then they only have to look over at the bench and see there are players chopin at the bit to get in the side. That is good for everyone and hopefully it will mean the results and performances can continue.
“All of the next fixtures are against teams round about us in the league. There seems to be a bit of a gap developing. All the top teams are wining at the moment and we saw that today. Motherwell, Inverness CT and Dundee United all had good victories and we are playing them all over the next two weeks so they are big games for us but they are also big games for them. You know that if you can beat your closest opponents then it will go a long way towards you having a good season.
“All the teams we are playing, apart from Ross County, we have beaten already this season so that will give us some confidence. I think if we play to our potential then I think we can beat anyone in the league. We have shown that this season. On the flip side to that if we do not play to our potential we will come a cropper and you can lose to any team in the league.
“We know the games coming up are very important but we will take each game one at a time and be very focussed on each one.”
