Langfield, Hayes & Pawlett sign new deals with the Club

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has continued the long term development of his Pittodrie squad with the announcement that Jamie Langfield, Jonny Hayes and Peter Pawlett have all signed contract extensions that will see them remain with the Dons for the foreseeable future.

Jamie and Jonny have both put pen to paper until the summer of 2016 while Peter will be with the Club until the conclusion of the 2016-17 campaign.

The Dons boss believes the securing of the three sends out an extremely positive message as to the ambitions of the Club. “These lads want to win something with Aberdeen, make no mistake about that, and they did not take too much persuading to continue their careers here.

“All three are very important players for this Club and will have significant roles to perform in the months ahead. As I have continually said, we have made a decent start to this season but are far from the finished article. However, it is important to ensure you keep your best players and knowing Jamie, Jonny and Peter have committed to the long term, enables us to have a continuity going forward and, in the short term, gives everyone a lift ahead of the weekend trip to Celtic.”

33-year-old keeper Jamie was signed by Jimmy Calderwood from Dunfermline in 2005, having previously played for Dundee, Raith Rovers, Partick Thistle and Forfar Athletic (loan).A Scotland B international, Jamie has been called up to the full national squad under Walter Smith, Alex McLeish and George Burley respectively. In fifteen appearances this season, he has achieved a very impressive nine shut-outs.

Signed in the summer of 2012 from Inverness Caley Thistle, Jonny (26), has made fourteen appearances this season, including three as a substitute, and has scored two goals. Born in Dublin, Jonny began his career at Reading’s youth academy and is a Republic of Ireland Under 21 international.

A product of the Pittodrie youth system, Peter was born in Hull but brought up in Banchory. He made his Dons debut in February 2009 and is a Scotland Under 21 international. Having spent time on loan at St. Johnstone last season, Peter has now established himself as a regular starter with the Dons, and has been involved in every match this season, scoring twice.
