Centenary Way

18 July 2013

message for supporters

As a result of ongoing concerns for the condition of the granite setts of Centenary Way outside the Richard Donald Stand they have now have been uplifted and the space filled in. The Setts have been taken indoors so that a process of cleaning and restoration can be undertaken by volunteers. After careful washing of the several hundred setts, it will be necessary to closely scrutinise the messages on many of the stones as these have been eroded by the weather and footfall over the past ten years and are now difficult to read. As the message on each sett is clearly identified, the lettering will be hand painted with appropriate black paint by volunteer artists.

The work of restoring the individual stones will be laborious and is likely to take quite some time so there is not a deadline for completion. Once all of the setts have been restored, they will be put on show indoors at Pittodrie in the Richard Donald Stand concourse so that any further weathering can be avoided. Ultimately a new and sheltered area will be found for them at the club’s new stadium.
