meet the Dons new signing

As soon as Calvin Zola had put pen to paper on his new deal in the Pittodrie Boardroom this afternoon he spoke to RedTV.

“I first heard of the interest from Aberdeen not that long ago actually. The manager rang me when I was on holiday which was very flattering and that was when I first found out about the club. We then met and things moved forward quite quickly.

“I was interested straight away because Aberdeen are a very big club that are well known throughout Europe, not just Scotland. They are a massive club with a great history and I know they have a great fan base who are very passionate about the club.

“I know a few people in football who actually played for the club including Zander Diamond. Everyone I spoke to including Zander confirmed what I already knew, that made the decision quite easy. I came here because I can be part of something special if we can bring the some glory back to Aberdeen. It is a great challenge for me as a footballer, something I am really looking forward to.

“I know quite a bit about Scottish football. When I was at Newcastle we often used to travel north and play friendly games against sides in Scotland. I have watched games over the years and I have had friends who have played here, and some still play here. Although it is going to be something new for me I still know quite a bit about the game and the style of football and how passionate the fans are about their football.

“I was impressed with the manager when I met him and his vision for the club. He also understood exactly what stage of my career I am at and what I want to achieve. He is a good manager who does things the right way and does his homework. I am sure the players will buy into what he wants to do here. I am very much looking forward to working with him and I am sure he will get the best out of me.

“I have learnt a lot about the game from my time in England. It has been a learning curve and I think I have matured a lot because of the amount of games I have played. I am now ready to take my career to the next level. Coming to such a big club as Aberdeen gives me the perfect stage. I believe under this manager and in this environment I can play my best football.”
