Tommie “The victory meant a lot”

In August at this ground Tommie Hoban scored, but also suffered a serious shoulder injury that kept him out for five months. He was back at Easter Road on Saturday, almost scoring again! But more importantly was outstanding in defence as the Dons secured another big win on the road. After the game Tommie spoke to RedTV:

“Those types of victories mean a lot to the team.

“On another day we could have gone on and won the game more comfortably, and scored three or four.

“But when you have to dig deep like that as a defender, you enjoy those types of wins even more.

“It is a difficult venue to come to and we had to put a lot into the game so when the final whistle sounded it was a great feeling.

“Delighted to get the three points.

“For the equaliser, both Sam and I went up for the header and got some kind of contact on the ball. It did not go in for us but Andy followed up thankfully and stuck it in the back of the net. It was a great response after the disappointment of going a goal behind. It was a bit sloppy from us, we should have defended the situation better.

“Thankfully we were able to respond and get the three points.

“It was a very eventful first half.

“Hopefully Sam and Joe will be ok and will recover quickly, hopefully in time for the game in midweek.

“It shows the character in this squad and the character of the boys on the bench who came on.

“I thought Tomas did really well for us today. I know it is hard for a defender coming on in those situations but for a goalkeeper it is even harder, especially if you have not played for a while. He made a good save in the second half. Tomas deserves a lot of credit. Also James put in a fantastic performance, held the ball up well for us and did a lot of running in behind. Also Stephen did well when he came on. They all played their part in the win. That is what you look for from players who come off the bench.

“I tried to stop thinking about what happened the last time I was here, not the injury but the late equaliser! When you do miss chances, you do start to think they could nick one at the end, but we defended well and on another day we could have won by three or four, we had a lot of good openings in the second half, so I feel we deserved the win.

“I remember after the game last time, speaking to RedTV and putting a brave face on because I knew there was a problem with the shoulder. I knew something was wrong. I just hoped it would not be as bad as last time.

“It has been a tough few months. I was very disappointed to have picked up another injury. I had just settled into life at Aberdeen, so it came at the worst possible time. But that is all behind me now. I am fit again and desperate to keep playing and to have a good second half to the season.”
