“I spoke to the manager a couple of weeks ago and since then we have moved quickly to get it done. I am delighted to be staying.

“A lot has happened since I signed my last extension deal in Dubai in January. I have had a little run in the team and have managed to score some goals.

“I will continue to bide my time and work hard and hopefully I will have more opportunities over the course of the season. And hopefully the goals will also follow.

“We do have more strength in depth this season in the squad. That is going to be vital as the campaign goes on as you will pick up injuries and suspensions. On Saturday we had Andrew Considine and Greg Tansey missing but we still were able to get a positive result. They will be back soon which will increase that competition for places.

“Myself as a wide player, I know I have got competition with Ryan Christie, Gary Mackay-Steven and Greg Stewart who are all great players. Competition for places is a good thing. It drives everyone on to work and train harder.

“The manager has spoken to me a couple of times. He has shown a lot of confidence in me and hopefully I can repay that faith. I will work hard to do that.

“Now I have my future sorted I can concentrate on getting my head down and focus on trying to get more first team starts.

“My job in the team is to create; to create goals for myself or for my team mates.

“I am enjoying being part of the current Scotland U21 squad. It is a very strong group. We started off with that win against The Netherlands. We played England last week and they were really strong and unfortunately lost be we bounced back with a good win in Latvia. We are sitting in a really healthy position at the moment. We have a double header in Perth coming up against Latvia and Ukraine next during the upcoming International break.

“We have some massive games for Aberdeen before then though.

“I am delighted for Scott McKenna. He has had to be patient for his chance but since coming into the team has been excellent. It is a credit to Scott. He kept himself physically and mentally right so he was ready when his opportunity came along. That can be hard when you are not playing.

“If we are being honest we have not been at our best so far this season but we have still managed to get ourselves up to the top of the table which is fantastic. I think we are starting to hit our stride now. We have gone on good runs at this stage of the season over the past couple of years, once we get the international breaks out of the way.

“We know if we play to the best of our ability we can get a positive result against most teams. All the boys in the dressing room are looking forward to the game next Wednesday.”
