“Coming into the start of this season I wasn’t playing and out of contract at the end of the current campaign.

“I didn’t know whether I was going to get offered anything here so after a few games to get offered a five-year contract, a bit of security and a chance to be at this massive club is something I jumped at.

“The club approached my agent last week and we got something done pretty quickly. It’s all been announced this week, so I’m delighted it’s all done, and I can focus on football again.

“It feels special to be given a long contract like that. Obviously, the manager’s put a lot of confidence and faith in me, playing me and giving me a contract. Hopefully my performance on the pitch can keep improving.

“I’ve put it all to one side mainly because the manager told me nothing would be happening in the sense of going anywhere. I’ve just been focused on playing well for Aberdeen and staying in the team.

Aberdeen’s Scott McKenna.

“It would be great if it happened (international call up) but I don’t know if it will. I’m just back in the U21s squad after being out the Scotland set up for a couple of years, so I’m just delighted to be there.

“With the manager, coaching staff and the squad of boys here I just want to try and experience some of the highs the boys have experienced in the last few years. That was my main reason for signing.

“I really want to get to Hampden with Aberdeen. I’ve been there but been left out and never experienced playing there. I want to get to cup finals, hopefully finishing second in the league and carrying on what’s been going on and being part of it in a playing sense.

“I’ve been to Hampden with Aberdeen, but never been stripped and it would be something I’d be keen on doing.

“The Partick game was a difficult game up here so we know it won’t be easy and we’ve had a couple of disappointing results in the league recently so hopefully we can bounce back. Every game is a tough game and they’ve got some powerful strikers who are quick. Miles (Storey) was here and we know what he’s like so we need to keep them quiet and get a couple of goals at the end other end.

“It is important we get back to winning ways.”
