“All the boys are gutted and frustrated after Thursday. Even at half time we were frustrated how the game had started. We still felt positive going into the second half but to be honest across the board we were not good enough over the full 90 minutes.

“It is frustrating for a player like me when that happens (having to go deep to get the ball). Every time I touch the ball I hope it is in the final third and helping to create goal scoring opportunities. To be fair to Motherwell they did well to shut the space in front of their defence and they play in the right areas. It was hard to nick the ball and get a chance to create something.

“I am frustrated with myself that I did not manage to score with my chance in the second half. Maybe that could have changed the game.

“The good thing is that we have a chance to bounce back on Sunday.

“I am sure we will have a bigger fire in our bellies doing into Sunday. All the boys are hurting in the changing room. All you can do is take that into the game on Sunday. We will spend the two days recovering and look back at the game. We will calm down a bit and review it and see where we can do better.

“We will be hoping to right our wrongs on Sunday.

“Sometimes you have an off night. You get away with it sometimes when two or three players are having a bad game but when the whole team are not at it, it quite clearly shows. It showed that across the board we were not good enough. We did not win our individual battles and that cost us. as I say we have a chance to bounce back and we will be looking to do that.

“We have to make sure this is a blip. We cannot let this turn into a run of bad form that will derail our season.

“I am sure Motherwell will go into Sunday and think they can do the same and we will need to make sure that it is not the case.”
